Talking to Yazid on the phone now. It's the holidays and I have to start work at Momo. This Friday. Wow, and to cram 37 songs in 4 days! Haha! Time to dive into Jimmy DeGrasso mode!
Ok, looks like out of this 37 tunes, I know about... 14 tunes. I'm wondering now whether I'm gonna stick to my method or Rifai's method.
Rifai's method is where he tells me, "Ok this is the intro." and he plays the chords and he says, "This goes on for 2 rounds." And then I write down, "Intro x2" and then we'll play right from the start, and top 40s being top 40s have a tendency to have the same groove repeated throughout, so we'll go on and he'll tell me, "Ok, this is the verse." etc.
My method is where I print out the lyrics and check that the lyrics go exactly as how the song goes and I use highlighters and pens to notate rolls, groove changes, attack points and/or freestyle, what have you etc.
Gosh, the last time at Key Largo, it didn't seem this rushing, even though I was sitting for N levels at the time. However, this feels more fun than playing at Key Largo. Maybe it's because it's the holidays and I'm dedicated to the work. Plus, Yazid's perhaps the coolest chap I know.
So now, it's time to concentrate on Yazid's group. I hear in the coming months, Rifai's and Joel's group, Trent, will be doing some major gigs, and we might even go full on next year. I am so looking forward to all this.
It's time to go back to the drums and the backing vocals.
Oh, and how can I forget. I have Stephen to thank for lending me his wonderful semi-acoustic for the show. Hey thanks man! It sounded amazing, and it felt quite amazing too! Thanks again! Thanks Bah, for photos. You rocks, as simple as that.
Let's work it!
